Half of all consumer electronics now sells online. The question is whether your products are ready for that shelf.

Retail platform RetailDetail recently put a number on what everyone in consumer electronics already feels: in 2026, more than half of all consumer electronics in Europe is sold online. The market behind that headline is enormous and still growing. Online CE revenue in Europe reached 112 billion euros in 2024, a jump of 24 percent compared to 2021, and 42 percent of it, some 47 billion euros, came from cross-border purchases.

Read those numbers again as a brand. The majority of your category’s revenue now runs through digital shelves. And almost half of it crosses a border, which means your products are being compared not just with the shop around the corner but with sellers from all over Europe.

The shelf is getting busier, and more expensive

The same reporting makes clear what kind of shelf that is. Amazon is the undisputed market leader in European online electronics, and the sector openly worries about Chinese players dumping products at aggressive prices. Meanwhile, even the biggest physical CE retailer in Europe is going the same way: MediaMarkt parent Ceconomy grew its profit by more than a fifth in the past nine months, driven not just by store sales but by its webshops, its retail media business and its marketplace.

Every one of those growth engines changes the game for brands. A marketplace means more third-party sellers appearing right next to your listing, sometimes with your own products. Retail media means visibility on the digital shelf is increasingly something you pay for, and lose the moment someone outbids you. And cross-border competition means a pricing mistake in one country is visible, and exploitable, everywhere.

In consumer electronics, this battle concentrates on a very small piece of screen real estate. Research consistently shows that the vast majority of purchases on Amazon go through the Buy Box, and that price causes more than half of all Buy Box losses. Add the fact that most shoppers never look past page one of search results, and the conclusion is simple: in this category, the digital shelf is not one of your channels. It’s the arena.

The CE brand playbook

So turn it around. This is not a threat, it’s a to-do list, and every item on it is within your control.

Make sure you’re listed, on every retailer and marketplace that matters, in every market. Make sure you’re in stock, because in CE the shopper simply clicks through to the next seller. Make sure your content is flawless: complete specs, correct images, consistent across dozens of channels and countries. Make sure your reviews work for you. Make sure your price corridor is respected, because it protects both your margin and your Buy Box. And make sure you’re visible in retailer search, preferably on page 1, because that’s where the comparison happens.

The stakes are real. When one global electronics brand started looking at its shelf through the consumer’s eyes, it uncovered 1.5 million euros in monthly revenue leakage, from listings and availability alone, on its key accounts. Nothing exotic. Just products missing or out of stock while internal reports showed green.

Seeing it is the first step

You can only manage this if you can see it, the way the consumer sees it, on every retailer, in every country, every day. That outside-in view is exactly what digital shelf analytics provides: one daily picture of your listings, availability, content, prices, reviews and search visibility, next to your competition.

This is where digital shelf analytics and optimisation, certainly with Parker, Sitelucent’s AI assistant, makes the difference.
